Very delicious food! I had the fall off the bone oxtails! I meannnn. Delicious. I would call ahead to make sure they have them the day you’re going to get them. I also had the greens and the yams. Everything was literally the BEST! Don’t forget to try the pineapple lemonade. And shout out to Mr. J and his wife. They were so kind and welcoming. The spot had a home vibe with great music and lights. It was chill and not too loud. I’m adding this to my faves.
Best soul food in San Antonio! Run, don’t want. The reviews are real! It is really 5 stars. Our table ordered almost everything on the menu. You can’t go wrong with any of it. Waffles, Wings, Chicken Fried Chicken, Shrimp, Peach cobbler. It’s really down home cooking like grandma used to make. Great for after church on a Sunday or even during the week when you are craving. All well seasoned but not too greasy and not too salty. Service was good too! Try to the pineapple lemonade. We will be back!!
It’s not often food leaves me lost for words but wow. This was a breathtaking eating experience I have never had so many beautifully blended flavors and bites. My girlfriend and I shared the waffle sampler with the shrimp, catfish and drummets with Asian zing sauce. Every bite was a symphony of flavors and went together so well with their waffle that was like biting into a cloud of bliss. For our main course we had the meatloaf and shrimp and grits with a side of Mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. Every bite was magic. The shrimp was beautifuly seasoned and the sauce on the grits was life changing. The meatloaf is smoked and was the best meatloaf and possibly meat I have ever had. The Mac and cheese was cheesy delicious and flavorful the garlic mashed potatoes was buttery seasoned to perfection goodness. It all comes with cornbread that melts in your mouth like cotton candy. I have paid for extravagant meals and consider myself a foodie with a good pallet and a cook myself. This is absolutely some of the best food I will experience in my life. Absolutely stunning, the owners are so kind and friendly and very hard working. You can feel their passion for cooking in every bite. I cannot wait to return to try more dishes and experience this amazing eatery.
We ordered our food to go but we then decided to sit down to eat.. they have very good prices and their food is SOO GOOD !! There is an explosion of flavor in every bite so yummy ! all of the food everything tasted amazing including the pineapple lemonade. We ordered the chicken and waffles, and the catfish with 2 sides it also included the cornbread. They have perfect portion sizes and not only is their food great but their customer service is amazing we feel very welcomed and everyone there was very nice welcoming and attentive and making sure we had everything we need for a good dining experience, the restaurant is also very clean and decorated beautifully...this is one of the best places we have been and we will definitely be back again thank you it was delicious !!!
02/13/2025 J’s Eatery just set the bar high for my first visit! I ordered shrimp and grits, garlic mashed potatoes, cornbread, and meatloaf, and let me tell you—EVERY BITE WAS PURE COMFORT & FLAVOR!!! The shrimp and grits were absolutely perfect—creamy, well-seasoned, and so satisfying that after just five bites, I was ready for a nap. The garlic mashed potatoes were smooth, buttery, and packed with just the right amount of garlic to make them irresistible. Then came the cornbread—moist, slightly sweet, and baked to golden perfection. It tasted like something straight out of a home-cooked Sunday dinner. And the meatloaf? Tender, flavorful, and covered in a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. For my first time ordering from J’s Eatery, they made a lasting impression. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the flavors spoke for themselves. This definitely won’t be my last visit! .
If you find your self off ih-35 and new braunfels be sure to take the trip over the bridge and go to J's Eatery and enjoy some great soul food that the Jefferys are cooking up ox tail was on point as well as there fried chicken and meat loaf baked mac and mashed potatoes everything was seasoned and cooked right so I urge to stop by and have your self a great dinner or Sunday lunch
Listen!!!! This is the best soul food in San Antonio! The vibes are so good I felt like I was at home. The prices are reasonable and the customer service is top tier! I didn’t want to let anyone know about this place but I want to see this black owned family business win so bad. Mr. Brian and Mrs.Judy are so sweet and accommodating. 10/10 recommend!
Ordered chicken fried chicken to go and it was delicious! Every bite was full of flavor. Macaroni was some of the best I’ve had. Chicken was perfectly crispy and the potatoes were so good! And the cornbread was 10/10. Perfectly moist. Will definitely be coming back and bringing my family.
